Introduction to silicon carbide | Aug 13
In this forum the basics of silicon carbide crystal growth by the most common process are introduced. The physical vapor transport (PVT) process is a natural process for silicon carbide. The PVT growth is explained to those who are not familiar with the process. The understanding of the basic process is a key to understanding the manufacturing of silicon carbide wafers, and thin films on the wafers for emerging technologies. The same principle for growth can be applied to fabricate layers by the Close Space PVT (CS-PVT) process for new applications.
The manufacturing of silicon carbide wafers has a central role because it is relevant in many dimensions. Technology advantages, financial, environmental resources (water, land area, etc.), intellectual property. This is a natural meeting point for discussions between different disciplines, as well as citizens and policy makers who experience the advantages of silicon carbide and other semiconductors in the daily life.
It is an introductory presentation (15-20 minutes) followed by Q&A and a discussion. This is part of a forum series. Next forums will be announced here and on Seminon LinkedIn page. Various type of informative materias i shared in the LinkedIn group Semiconductors and silicon carbide for non-experts (and experts)
